Robyn Davies – Musical Director
Robyn was born and brought up in Ironbridge, Shropshire and is the youngest daughter of the late Dr. Tony Whitney. She was educated at Coalbrookdale Church of England infant and junior school and Abbots Bromley where she was able to study music. In 1972 she continued to study music at the Royal Academy where she gained the LRAM Diploma. Robyn has always been involved in choral singing being a member of the first British Youth Choir formed in 1972, a founder member of the Midlands Chorale formed by Robert Williams in 1979 and singing with many other choirs and musical groups.
While singing with the Abbey Chorale she was called on to help with the Musical Direction when their Director was ill and seven years later she is still doing the job. Three years ago Robyn took over the direction of the Darby Singers, the mixed voice Community Choir which meets at the Abraham Darby School in Telford.
In 2006 she retired from the Picture Framing and Art Business, which she ran with her husband, Trevor and music has become a major part of her life, performing as a soloist, accompanying and conducting. Taking on the musical direction of the Hadley & District Orpheus Male Choir is a tremendous challenge, which she is thoroughly enjoying. Since being with the Hadley Male Choir she has found a photograph taken in 1934 (almost exactly 75 years ago), of her Grandfather, Dr. Cyril Whitney with his male voice choir, The Ironbridge Glee Singers.
